Job Title: Engineer III Bearing Specialist

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Job Summary:

 Oversee the design and certification of FAA approved aftermarket aircraft parts.

 Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design commercial aircraft aftermarket parts by reverse engineering. Primary concentration on bearings (Ball, Roller, Thrust, Spherical).
  • Requires the use of standard and bearing specific measurement tools to gather dimensional data.
  • Create 3D CAD models and dimensional data reports from reverse engineering data.
  • Create manufacturing drawings from dimensional reports, material analysis, and available technical data.
  • Manage multiple reverse engineering projects simultaneously.
  • Create reports to facilitate FAA certification.
  • Checks engineering drawings and FAA reports for accuracy.
  • Supports bearing related MRB activity
  • Provide engineering group training in specialized areas.
  • Provide support to purchasing and sales with travel to suppliers and customers.
  • Work with and travel to vendors to fix bearing related design and manufacturing issues.

  • Capable of reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 
  • Capacity to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) experience highly preferred (ANSI 14.5)
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling (Solid Works) experience preferred.
  • Familiar with manufacturing methods and processes related to the creation of precision machine parts such as gears, bearings, seals, etc. 
  • Demonstrated (Ball, Roller, Thrust, Spherical) Bearing design experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of ABMA ABEC and RBEC classifications.
  • Bearing manufacturing experience is preferred.Bearing failure analysis would be beneficial.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Minimum of five years applicable design experience and training.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
